It’s not only coming to the end of the year but also the end of a decade.  As we move into what we would have considered space age times when we were kids, with all the technology available to us, there are still some hobbies that remain old school.  For me, that’s reading a book.  Not on a kindle or listening to an audio book but a good old-fashioned paper back that I can snuggle up with and fold down the pages when it’s time for bed (who needs a bookmark?!).

What this collab with Casillero del Diablo has taught me is to take a bit more time for me and my friends, where we enjoy a book alone and come together to chat about it.  We’ve read some crackers.  Some funny, some sombre and some we’ve disagreed on but that’s not the point.  It’s taking some time away from screens and making time to be with each other in the comfort of our homes that has been a pleasure.

This Christmas we are heading to Scotland for 10 days and coming with me is my new book, Tana French, The Secret Place.  It’s a gritty novel based on a cold  case which is my favourite kind of read so I’m really looking forward to this.  I’ll spend evenings in my in laws with the fire lit, a glass of Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon and while away the hours.

Whatever you’re up to this Christmas, I hope you have a relaxing peaceful time surrounded by loved ones, lots of food, wine and laughter.  Happy Christmas!
